The Information Technology Exchange is a 501(C)3 Non-Profit Corporation - EIN 55-0788650
ITE was established by 5 Maine residents in 2002 with a mission to increase access to technology for the public and for non-profits. Today ITE is fulfilling this mission through a variety of programs. Our immediate focus is on helping non-profits, families and individuals overcome obstacles to technology access such as cost, sustainability and availability.
Who We Serve:
1) Individuals and Families who need technology for educational and career skills development objectives - special focus on individuals and families with lower incomes and/or disabilities. This effort is supported via ITE's PCs for MAINE project through a direct service model;
2) Non Profit and NGO's who provide supports or advocate for people enegaged in educational or career skills development pursuits and/or people who have disabilities. This effort is also supported via ITE's PCs for MAINE project through a partner/cooperative service model;
3) Community Support & Educational Non Profits can also access ITEs technology resources. ITEs professional staff, volunteers and wealth of donated and low cost technology contribute to technology planning, acquisition and support to increase these organizations social impact and capacity. These services are available through ITEs NPO Support Services program;
4) The general community benefits from ITE resources through our PC MEDIX Computer Sales and Service group. This program provides services to the community at large and access to environmentally friendly reconditioned computer equipment, new systems and repairs. The ITE staff providing these services are also reconditioning and supporting PCs for MAINE program participants and the proceeds generated by PC MEDIX fund the social activities of ITE.
The Business Model:
ITE uses the “Social Enterprise” business model to sustain it's mission. This reduces ITEs dependance on grants and has allowed ITE to provide its important services independant of state or federal funding.
ITE also leverages donated commercial quality computers, charitable software licensing channels, open source software, and works in cooperation with community partners to help overcome cost obstacles for our participants.
To date, ITE and its contributors have combined over $1,736,700.00 in cash and goods including donated computers, software, grants, gifts from the community, and PC MEDIX proceeds. The total goods and service value of these combined gifts is over $4,080,000.00 !
The estimated cost of this service via conventional means would be $1,670.00 per participant. ITEs alternative methods have reduced participation costs to an average of only $172.
