e-Waste Alternatives
Does your current electronics recycling service...
Process the material, or sell it to a real processor somewhere else?
Reuse as much as possible to reduce your recycling fees?
Include absolute data destruction and detailed itemized documentation?
Recycle (scrap) materials ONLY when reuse is not an option?
Reuse electronics (such as computers) to the benefit of our community?
Create jobs for people with disabilities?
We Do!

eWaste Alternatives (EWA for short) is a non profit program that has figured out how to convert a large environmental problem and business liability into a sustainable social benefit.
How it works:
- Contact us to arrange a Site Collection. Our staff will come to you and transport your materials in a secure vehicle directly to our processing facility;
- Your materials enter our receiving process. We provide 100% materials accountability thanks to our extensive per-item serialized documentation standards - all of this information is returned to your staff electronically;
- During the receiving process, all storage devices are removed from host devices (such as hard drives and other media) and are moved to our software and physical data destruction systems within our processing facility. Sensitive data does not leave our facility as it does with other services;
- Once documented and declassified, materials are then tested for reuse.
- Reusable technology is processed for FREE. Its value is considered a charitable gift and can be tax-deductible!
- Reusable materials are then refurbished and redistributed through a variety of different social programs who serve a wide variety of communities;
-
- Non-reusable computers are dismantled into their subcomponents and sorted. These sorted materials are shipped only to licensed North American processors.

"This is one of the best and most sustainable recycling programs I've ever used. The bins (EWA's Surplus Technology Management System) meet all Maine DEP labeling requirements and eliminate the need to create a secure storage space plus saves time and less handling during pick-ups." - Jim Guzelian, Bates College EH&S Assistant
